Every list of the best website builders seems to crown the same winner. But a café, a design studio and an online shop need different things. The best website builder for one is the wrong one for another.
So this guide sorts nine builders by what each one is best for. Each gets a real price, checked on its own pricing page, and the catch you'd only find after signing up.
We make Sitelas, one of the nine. We've tried to be fair: every price and plan below comes from each company's own site, checked on October 15, 2026. Prices change, so check before you buy.
How we judged
- What it's best for. The job each builder does better than the rest.
- What it really costs. The cheapest plan that lets you use your own web address, billed yearly. Monthly billing usually costs more.
- The catch. Free plans with limits, intro prices that jump, or a learning curve.

1. Wix — best for most small businesses
Wix is the safe default. You drag things where you want them, and its app market adds bookings, online stores and more. The free plan lets you build and publish on a Wix address.

Wix pricing, as of October 2026.
Costs: $0 to build and publish on a Wix address. Your own domain and no Wix branding start with Light at $17 a month, billed yearly.
The catch: with so many options, it's easy to spend an afternoon nudging boxes. And the plans that take payments start at Core, $29 a month.
2. Squarespace — best for polished design
Squarespace templates look good with almost no effort. It suits portfolios, restaurants and small shops that care how things look.

Squarespace pricing, as of October 2026.
Costs: a 14-day trial at no cost, then from $12 a month, billed yearly.
The catch: there's no free plan, and you trade some flexibility for that polish.
3. Shopify — best for selling online
If selling products is the point, start here. Shopify handles stock, checkout, shipping and taxes better than any general website builder.

Shopify pricing as shown to us (Shopify's Pakistan page), October 2026. Shopify sets prices by country.
Costs: 3 days at no cost, then $1 a month for 3 months. After that, price depends on your country. Shopify showed us Basic at US$22 a month billed yearly; check the price for yours.
The catch: it's overkill for a site that doesn't sell, and apps can add up.
4. WordPress.com — best for blogs and content
WordPress.com is the hosted version of WordPress. It's built for writing, with a huge library of themes and plugins.

WordPress.com pricing, as of October 2026.
Costs: a free plan that shows WordPress.com ads. Personal is $4 a month for the first year, billed yearly, then renews at $5.
The catch: there's more to manage than on Wix or Squarespace. Taking payments starts at Premium.
5. Webflow — best for designers who want control
Webflow gives you real design control without writing code. Web designers and agencies love it.

Webflow pricing, as of October 2026.
Costs: free on a webflow.io address. Basic is $15 a month billed yearly; a blog or other content needs Premium, at $25.
The catch: it has a learning curve. If you've never designed a website, expect to spend time on tutorials.
6. Framer — best for sleek startup and portfolio sites
Framer makes fast, modern sites with smooth animation. It's popular with startups and designers.

Framer pricing, as of October 2026.
Costs: free on a Framer address, which Framer suggests for non-commercial use. Basic is $10 a month billed yearly.
The catch: like Webflow, it rewards people who think like designers.
7. Hostinger — the lowest starting price
Hostinger's website builder is the cheapest way in on this list. It's a simple drag-and-drop editor with hosting included, and a domain and email free for the first year.

Hostinger Website Builder pricing, as of October 2026.
Costs: $2.99 a month, but read the small print first.
The catch: that price means paying for 48 months upfront ($143.52). It then renews at $10.99 a month.
8. ChatGPT Sites — best for small apps, if you pay for ChatGPT
ChatGPT Sites is OpenAI's own builder. You describe what you want and ChatGPT writes and hosts it. It can do things normal website builders can't, like log-ins and saved data.

OpenAI's ChatGPT Sites page, as of October 2026.
Costs: included in paid ChatGPT plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu), in beta with usage limits. It isn't on Free or Go.
The catch: it starts from code, not a designer template, so results vary. We compared it in detail in ChatGPT Sites vs Sitelas.
9. Sitelas — best for running your site from ChatGPT or Claude
Sitelas is ours. You add it to ChatGPT or Claude, describe your business, and it builds the site from a designer template. After that, you change it the same way: "Move Friday's class to 6:30." We call this a chat-native website builder.

Changing a yoga studio's timetable from a ChatGPT chat, October 2026.
Costs: one live site free, on a sitelas.com address. Pro is $9 a month per site ($90 a year) and adds your own domain.
The catch: it makes marketing websites, not apps or full online stores. There are no visitor log-ins and no cart. You can sell single items with a Stripe payment link, or take bookings through your Calendly page (how embeds work). And its template library is smaller than Wix's.
